One thing I particularly enjoy outside of property is eating out, and luckily for us, West Cornwall is becoming better and better for it every year.

What makes this part of Cornwall special is the number of genuinely independent restaurants, cafés, pubs and food spots continuing to open. Whether you want a quick coffee after a coastal walk, seafood overlooking the harbour, a proper breakfast, or a long lazy lunch in the sun, there’s now so much choice.

Living in Newlyn, I’m lucky to have some brilliant places right on the doorstep.

Newlyn

Lovetts
Lovetts is my go to coffee stop. Most mornings I’ll end up there whilst walking the dog before work. Great coffee.

Duke Street Café
Duke Street is brilliant year round because of its covered outdoor dining and heaters. It works just as well on a crisp winter morning as it does in summer. Their full English is one of the best around and it’s always got a good atmosphere.

Mackerel Sky Fish Bar
Mackerel Sky is a fantastic. Fresh local fish, really good quality food and a menu that works for everyone, even if seafood isn’t your thing. Proper relaxed dining.

Argoe
Argoe wins awards for good reason. You genuinely could not get closer to the harbour and sea without sitting in the water itself.

Jelbert’s Ice Cream
We’re lucky to have the world famous Jelbert’s ice cream in Newlyn too. Simple Cornish vanilla with clotted cream. It’s become part of the fabric of the village. Only one flavour but thats all it needs.

There are loads of other places I could mention too. The food scene here keeps improving all the time.

The Swordfish & The Fisherman’s Arms
Both great local pubs but with completely different feels.

The Swordfish is lively, social and full of character, while The Fisherman’s Arms has more of a traditional cosy pub atmosphere. Depending on the mood, either can be spot on.

Mousehole

Just along the coast, Mousehole has some incredible places to eat as well.

The Old Coastguard
In my opinion, The Old Coastguard has the best beer garden in Cornwall. The setting is unbelievable overlooking the sea, and in summer they even have the shack bar running outside serving drinks and food.

2 Fore Street
2 Fore Street is another favourite. The garden is a brilliant spot for breakfast, coffee or a long lunch when the weather’s good. Relaxed, stylish and consistently good.

Mousehole Kitchen
Mousehole Kitchen seems to be open all hours of the day and always busy for good reason. Great food, great takeaway options and ideal whether you’re grabbing something quick or sitting down properly.

Why We Love West Cornwall
One of the best things about living in West Cornwall now is that the food and café culture has genuinely caught up with the scenery.

You’ve got fishing villages, coastal walks, sea views and now an ever-growing list of brilliant independent businesses serving quality food and drink.
