The first has to be the scenery. It's something you never really take for granted. Whether it's the beaches, the dramatic coastline, countryside walks, hidden coves or iconic landmarks like St Michael's Mount, you're surrounded by incredible views every single day. Best of all, so much of West Cornwall still feels wonderfully unspoilt. It hasn't lost the character that makes it so special.

Another huge positive is how safe it feels. It's still one of those places where children walk to school, people know their neighbours, and you'll regularly see people out walking in the evenings without a second thought. There's a genuine sense of community that can be difficult to find elsewhere.

Talking of community, one thing I've noticed time and time again through my work is how welcoming people are. We help plenty of people move here who don't know a single person, yet within months they've found great friendship groups, joined clubs, started new hobbies and genuinely feel part of the community. Whether you're into golf, surfing, running, paddleboarding, football, sailing or simply enjoying a coffee with friends, you can be as busy or as relaxed as you want to be.

Then there's the food. For somewhere relatively small, the choice is incredible. We have some of the best independent cafés, pubs and restaurants in the country, many making full use of the amazing seafood landed just a few miles away, along with fantastic local meat, vegetables and produce. One of my favourite things to do is eat out, and I still find myself trying somewhere new on a regular basis.

Of course, nowhere is perfect

Employment can be more limited than in larger cities, and salaries aren't always as high. There aren't as many major companies based here, but there are still fantastic opportunities, especially if you're self-employed or run your own business. One thing I really love is how people in Cornwall genuinely support independent businesses. Local people tend to shop locally whenever they can, and that's something I'm really proud of.

Transport is probably the biggest compromise. We're around an hour and 45 minutes from the nearest motorway, which can feel like a long drive if you're travelling regularly. But things have improved massively.

Newquay Airport now offers flights to destinations including London Gatwick, London Stansted, Alicante, Malaga, Faro, Copenhagen and Zurich, making it surprisingly easy to get away or travel for work. You can leave Cornwall in the morning and be in London within about an hour.

Our rail links aren't perfect, and anyone who uses them regularly will know they can test your patience, but there is something quite reassuring about living at the very end of the line. If you happen to fall asleep on the train, don't worry, you'll wake up in Penzance because there's nowhere further to go!

We're also incredibly lucky to have direct links to the Isles of Scilly by passenger ferry, flights from Land's End Airport near St Just, and helicopter services, making one of the UK's most beautiful island destinations feel like it's right on our doorstep.

For me though, the biggest reason to live here isn't just one thing. It's the lifestyle.

Life feels that little bit slower. You can finish work and be on a beach in minutes, watch the sun set over the sea, head out for a fantastic meal, or simply enjoy a walk along the coast. It's a place where people make time for life, not just work.

Living in West Cornwall won't suit everyone, and that's absolutely fine. But if you're looking for stunning scenery, a welcoming community, amazing food, an active outdoor lifestyle and somewhere that genuinely feels different from the rest of the country, I honestly think it's hard to beat.

As someone who lives and works here every day, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
